OVERVIEW

Programs are designed to teach the most effective skills and techniques to treat psychological disorders, with particular focus on trauma. Training is offered to practitioners in the mental health, corporate, public and academic fields and to individuals with equivalent life experience. Review our programs to find a course that meets your needs.

100 level courses indicate beginner level workshops
200 level courses indicate advanced beginner level courses; check for prerequisite
300 level courses indicate intermediate level courses usually with 200 level courses required
400 level courses indicate areas of advanced work; check for prerequisites.
E500 level indicate electives; check for prerequisites.

Students taking the 100 level courses are enrolled in the program and listed by ACT Institute as a Beginner.

After completing all the required 200 level courses students can apply to become Matriculated: Matriculation is granted after completing the 200 level courses, a required number of hours of supervision and various elective courses plus an interview in which the student is required to present a synthesis of there studies and a degree of emotional maturity necessary to advance to the next level of training. Additional supervision, course work or psychotherapy my be required at this time.

300 level courses place the student at the Intermediate level in their studies. Course at the 400 level are related to areas of advanced specialization.
After attending required supervision and advanced practicums, a minimum of 200 hours of individual psychotherapy, and completing areas of specialization and passing a Final case presentation students can apply to change their status to that of Expert in a given area of specialization.

Graduates having practiced for a minimum of two years after achieving Expert status can apply for evaluation and upon completion of additional requirements indicating a greater level of expertise, experience, emotional maturity commitment to the field and a contribution to the field of trauma therapy by completing an approved of research project or producing appropriate writings in the field will receive Master status as Trauma Therapist with a specialization in Chronic and Acute Illness, Terrorism or Abduction. Continuing Education credits are require every other year to maintain Master status.
